How to Extend Your Phone Battery Life

Updated: May 17, 2021

Battery life is more important than ever...

Update to the latest software

Apple software updates often include advanced energy-saving technologies, so always make sure your device is using the latest version of iOS, macOS, or watchOS.

Avoid the Temperature

Most cell phones are designed to perform well in a wide range of ambient temperatures, with (15° to 25° C) as the ideal comfort zone. Thus it is important to avoid exposing the device above the comfort zone to maintain battery health of the device.

Another important and most debated issue is "should I charge my cell phone with my case on". Although there are different views about this, since the temperature damages the battery and the battery gets hot during charge, it is best to remove the case before charging your cell phone.

Avoid Complete Drain and Charge

Today's most cell phones have a LiPo (lithium polymer) battery in. LiPo batteries work in a different way than the past ones, NiMh (nickel metal hybrid) batteries.

LiPo batteries work in a way that it should be stressed to drain and charge completely. So it is best to avoid to fully discharge and charge your cell phone.

Most advanced cell phones have a battery charging algorithm in-software that optimizes charging. In iOS 13, Apple has introduced a new feature called "Optimized Battery Charging", which is enabled by default. The iPhone learns your daily routine and predicts how long the iPhone will be on the charger when you go to bed overnight. With this prediction of daily behavior, Optimized Battery Charging prevents your phone from fully charging to 100% as soon as you plug it in. Instead, the iPhone battery will charge to about 80%.

Battery Usage Tool

Ios (and also Android) has another helpful way to track your battery’s lifespan and take steps to improve it. You may start with visiting the settings / battery section. On this screen you will see the chart showing which apps uses most of the battery over a defined time.

At the end of the day, it is best for you to look after your cell phone's battery if you would like to keep it pristine a long time...
